Chiloé island is located 1186 kilometers from Santiago and 90 kilometers southwest of Puerto Montt. The island's name comes from the word Chilhué, which means 'place of gulls'. The island was discovered by the Spanish on November 8, 1553, achieving independence in 1926. Among its attractions are highlighted its wooden architectural structures as well as the stilt houses of Churches declared patrimony of humanity.
