The city is located in the province of Coyhaique and is the capital of Region XI of Aisen of General Carlos Ibanez del Campo, in Chilean Patagonia. Coyhaique was founded in 1929 and is the youngest regional capital.

Coyhaique The city is surrounded by two rivers (Simpson and Coyhaique) and the hills are covered by snow most of the year. Coyhaique is often called "the city of eternal snow."
