WELCOME TO EASTER ISLAND
Island of volcanic origin, it reaches 538m above sea level. Economic resources are tourime and sheep farming. The island was settled by Polynesian emigrants from Central Polynesia to the fifth century. It seems that the Easter Island civilization has slowly evolved in isolation and developing aspects of ancient Polynesian culture, including the monumental architecture of shrines (ahu), and especially the sculpture of giant statues, the moai, which represent humans that were carved into the slopes of Rano Raraku volcano. This island was discovered in 1722 by Dutch Jakob Roggeveen, on Easter Sunday, hence its name. It belongs to Chile since 1888.
