La Serena is a pretty seaside town perfectly preserved colonial style. Here, it is based on the most beautiful beaches on the coast. The region has a pleasant climate all year round. La Serena is the capital of the second region and the second oldest city in Chile. It was founded by Pedro de Valivia in 1541 and has enjoyed an economic boom in the 1920s. During the presidency of Gabriel González Videla, a native of La Serena, the city awarded a urban renewal plan. Around the Plaza de Armas is still a lot of building dating back to the colonial era.
